Duke William Departs, jacquard woven French impressionist wall tapestry décor depicts events leading up to the Battle of Hastings (1066) when Duke William of Normandy was victorious over King Harold of Saxony, England. Here the cavalry embarks for England. Part of Bayeux, this jacquard wall tapestry is an extract of the queen Mathilde's tapestry. The original some 230 feet long, is in the Bayeux museum in Normandy.
